C4, or Composition C-4, is a plastic explosive material with a malleable texture that makes it very versatile. It consists of 91% RDX, a powerful explosive compound, and has a detonation velocity of 8,092 meters per second. In the Counter-Strike series of games, C4 is exclusive to the Terrorist team and is the primary target on maps with bomb clearance.

Getting C4
At the beginning of each round, a random player from Team Terrorist receives C4. If the game is played with bots and the settings allow it, human players will also get it. The player with the C4 will have it explicitly attached to his back. Older versions of the game displayed the word “Bomb” next to the carrier on the scoreboard, while newer versions use an icon.

To install C4, the Terrorist team needs to reach one of the designated bomb shelters labeled A or B. C4 can only be installed in these areas, and the player with the bomb must select it and begin the installation process.
Installation Process
Installation takes 3.2 seconds, during which time the player is vulnerable because he cannot move. In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the installation animation is accompanied by characteristic sound effects and a visual indicator. If the bomb is placed on pad B, the buzzer sound will be slightly lower in pitch. Once set, C4 begins to emit a loud buzzer and glow red, with the signal accelerating as the countdown progresses.
C4 Detonation
Once set, the C4 begins counting down the time. The standard timer is 45 seconds, but this is reduced to 40 seconds in competitive modes. If the Counter-Terrorists fail to defuse the bomb in time, it will detonate, causing the Terrorist team to win. The blast radius in Global Offensive is 1750 and the maximum damage reaches 500 at close range, but these values can vary from map to map.
Walls within the blast radius do not block damage, so players should keep a safe distance away. Armor can reduce the damage received, but players too close to the explosion will likely be destroyed.

The main task of Counter-Terrorists after planting the C4 is to defuse the bomb before time runs out. It takes 10 seconds to defuse, but this time is reduced to 5 seconds with the use of a defusing kit. Only Counter-Terrorists can defuse the bomb, and this requires holding down the “USE” key while looking at the bomb. The player defusing the bomb is in high vulnerability and cannot shoot during this time.
